Yoga & 2012

Fri ,20/11/2009

Recently I’ve started practicing yoga. I’ve stuck with it for a week so far, ever since I got back from visiting with Lyon. I love the sense of peace, the sense of balance, and how aware I am in my body after practice. Also, seeing my muscles start to tone up and body get all sexified, well, that don’t hurt either, LOL! I’m HOOKED. Hardcore. Enough so that I decided to make a tiny splurge for myself, that I went out to buy a yoga mat the other day.

While out to find a yoga mat, I found that online selections of store products and actual in store products can be WAAAAAY different! I initially had gone to Dick’s Sporting Goods, because I had seen something on their online catalog I really was interested in. Of course they didn’t have it in store, so I spend the next couple hours doing something I rarely do, shopping! I’m of the school of shopper that goes out shopping with something in mind. I go to the store, find it, and go home. I usually don’t like to window shop. Usually. It felt really good to the other day, though. To get out and just do something – anything – out of the house. So I wandered around for a while, and eventually ended up at Barnes & Noble. They actually have yoga mats. I know. But they also have a section (small section) on “new age” and “spirituality” and “religion”. So I figured I’d browse there and see if they had a book I’ve had my eye on for a while there. No. They didn’t. What they had was shelves and shelves and shelves of books relating to 2012.

Ok, this was something we barely ever heard about even 3 months ago, even 1 month ago. Now there’s hundreds and hundreds of books. How. LOL. I havent’ actually looked into this much at all. I’m fairly ignorant about the whole deal, besides the part where “The world is supposed to end”. To me it seems more like the early Mayan engineers made a boo-boo much like the early PC software developers, an ancient “Y2K bug” if you will. But I don’t know, like I said I’m pretty ignorant on this subject. And to me, right now, it looks like a mass commercial cash in on a hot topic, that’s going to be forgot about in 4 years, literally, either way you look at it. Either the world is gone, and nobody is left to care about it, or it goes on, and we all forget about it. Either way, I can’t see obsessing about it, so I’m wondering why the sudden fascination? What are your thoughts on this whole 2012 “thing”?
